But if you want to dive a little deeper, who owns GMC? The answer is General Motors. General Motors is the umbrella company that also owns Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac. How Did GMC Start?

Before there was GMC, there was Rapid Motor Company. Founded by Grabowsky in 1902, Rapid Motor Company was a pioneer in the field of pickup trucks. Following immense success, the Rapid Motor Company was acquired by General Motors in 1909. This led to the debut of the first mass-produced truck built by GMC, which sold well over 22,000 models! GMC continued to carve out its reputation for powerhouse vehicles, eventually becoming one of the leading providers of military trucks during WWII — a total of 600,000 in all!
